One of the most urbanised populations on the planet, and our cities are extremely focused right in the centre. Despite our cities being blown-out suburban hellscapes that take 2+ hours to drive across, everyone commutes to and from the main CBD every single day. I stayed on Broadway and it was pretty nice. Manhattan felt a lot safer than I thought it would. Central Park was really nice and clean, reminded me of Yoyogi Park, but busier. Food was pretty nice all around, really fucked with SOHO and Little Italy. Pier 17 was also really cool, and the surrounding Wall Street area had a few nice boutique bakeries and book shops and shit. It's all very gay but it became something I had mostly become immune to by the end of my trip, since almost every blue city is like that.

The only place I actually didn't like in Manhattan was Times Square, which is full of way too many FOBs peddling fake shit and harassing people. Also I guess the Bronx though I only was there briefly to watch a Yankees game (which was cash).

Other than that it was pretty good. I really liked Brooklyn as well, though was disappointed by how lackluster Coney Island was. Full of black workers who clearly don't want to fucking be there, a theme I found across the US, especially the south. The males are usually ok and pretty charismatic and yappy, but the females all look at you with these glazed over eyes like you're inconveniencing them by walking up to their counter as opposed to letting them stare into blank nothingness for their 4 hour shift.

Our public transport system is an enormously wasteful and underperforming cash sink.

The airport line has been delayed yet again by the way, they decided that they would rather spend $200+b (yes, with a b) on a useless "suburban rail loop" which doesn't even have any forecasted usage. Build it and they'll magically start using it, so they say.
But the metro tunnel is a pretty good project, it'll definitely help funnel a few million more jeets into jobs that they don't deserve.

It's because Australia is still super-majority white in a way the the USA, Canada, and the UK, are not. Australia's super-white demographics are why it is such a nice place to live. It's also why 95% of actually good music in the past decade and a half has come from Australian bands (King Giz, Cut Copy, Amyl and the Sniffers etc). White people need safe urban areas with enough other white people that subcultures within white society can develop and individuate themselves enough to produce different scenes. This is what happened during Boomer and GenX generations in America, and to a much lesser extent, millenials when America was still mostly white.

Today that's not the case, and white people, especially zoomers and youngers are split into two groups only, liberal or conservative. If you're liberal you hang out w certain people, if you're conservative you hang out with certain people.

That's not how it was. Used to be less political and if you were a hippie you didnt hang out much with punks, or if you liked raves you didn't go to rock concerts that much, or punk shows, or folk concerts, even though all of those were populated by mostly fellow libtard types

According to wikipedia Melbourne is the 5th safest big city in the world. Homicide rate was only 2.2 per 100k residents in 2018. Has it gotten much worse since then? Do you have better more recent statistics?

The city I live in literally has more than 15x as many murders as Melbourne and doesn't feel that bad, we're not even in the top 10 most violent cities in the US.

I'm oversimplifying a bit, but our cities tend to be located in really good locations, where you have to build according to the geographical constraints (rivers, bays, etc.)

So you tend to have high density (i.e. skyscrapers) near really good spots.

We could technically build huge American-suburbs on empty flat land (and to some extent we still do have some of that sprawl), but no one really would want to live there.

People want to be close to the Sydney harbour, the beach, etc.

We have alot of greenery, build large parks everywhere, we incorporate nature into the design of suburbs with alot of Australians having a wetlands nearby or native plant and animal reserve. Our architecture is much more modern , less ugly brutalist buildings that I see in alot of American cities and more shiny high tech contemporary and post modern skyscrapers.

I think most American cities just aren't growing they are stagnating and don't look all that different to how they looked in the 70s and 80s. From what I've seen judging from Google earth it's really just Austin and New York City that are actually growing and modernising.
