Rich Americans are extremely charitable. They feel guilty about their wealth, so they engage in innumerable do-gooder campaigns, giving away what they never rightfully earned. Of course, hefty tax breaks for charitable donations are a big incentive, as are the high-society fundraiser events themselves, which offer a chance to mingle with other elites in an exclusive environment. Like everything, it's a big racket.

I've made myself a very useful goyslave at work. Yes, people recognize and appreciate me for my work all day every day. But every time I've tried to socially engage with people here, I've been given the cold shoulder and made to feel that my engagement was unwanted.

Twice I've said "Fuck this place, I can't stand it anymore" and left with no intention of returning. But after a year or so of wandering around, I returned. As arduous and deprived as life can be here, it's still miles better than any of the other work/life arrangements I've tried out all across the map.
