These public figures, especially the ones who go out in public regularly and "debate" or whatever you call what Charlie Kirk did, receive thousands of death threats a year. Most are just angry people venting after they perceive their views being challenged or as the YouTube algorithm would call it "Charlie Kirk Destroys Woke Left!" and in those thousands of threats some happen to be credible. This guy was one of those credible threats who took it a few steps further. He may not have made threats online towards Charlie Kirk, but there were always guys like this around, waiting and contemplating.

This is also why billionaires put nobodies like Charlie Kirk and make them into somebodies using organizations like Turning Point because they know there is always a small risk in someone doing something like this. It's also possible these billionaires oligarchs don't really care about politics. When I was growing up I remember debate club and how it was always stressed that you had to learn both sides of an argument completely to understand it. I think what that anon is also getting at is how dangerous the soundbites are for radicalizing people. They hear just scant fractions of people's overall viewpoints. You can make virtually ANYBODY into a monster when you do that, especially when its selective and malicious.
This isn't just about Charlie, either, or the right. Plenty of people across the board have been targets of media selectivity in order to distort their character.
If you ever find yourself truly hating somebody, going and watching their content in full is actually the most honest thing you can do. If you find yourself still despising them afterward, its at least fully informed distaste, and not something crafted and fed to you in a 15 second soundbite to force you to hate them.

But also the broader aspect of what used to be a true, broad liberal education.
