It's actually not awesome. Our house prices have stayed basically flat since the pandemic. Compared to the prices of homes in other regions, houses here have actually lost value. My parents have an inherited, but small home. This house is only worth at most like $120K even with the near acre yard we have. Meanwhile, a house like this in Florida is going for $300K.

You said it yourself, the mountain west has little to no water, which limits its viable living areas greatly. Also, populations are dense in a few small areas in the intermountain west, making traffic miserable with all the new arrivals. See Boise and salt lake metro areas. Idk where in northern MI you are, but anywhere there or in the UP seems like a good and very underrated area to be in this century. The house prices reflect the great lakes region's underrated status.

I'm 20. When I was little we would get actual snowy winters with only a few rainy cold days. Now we basically have all rainy cold days that hover around 35. I'm pretty sure Northern MI actually does have expensive houses though (at least compared to here) because it's not totally ugly as fuck in the winter; it's still like a discount Maine.

I drove up to Montana this summer, had not been in 10 years and I was shocked at how much the state has changed. Yes Montana has never had many fat people. But there also is not very good food in Montana. Restaurants have poor service and they are overpriced and they always go out of business. People all do outdoors stuff forcing them to loose weight I think. Winters are dark an awful. Kinda hard though to compare this with say Arizona or New Mexico or somewhere hot with desert. Generalizing everywhere as beautiful because of national parks is not exactly accurate. In montana you live up there in poverty you never think about nature. It's poverty with a view. But now not even your rough and tumble types in Montana anymore. All of them are from out of state. I saw so many fucking Texas plates it was unbelievable.

Montana is just as or almost as dry as AZ and NM. NM and AZ get cold too, terribly cold too (Angel Fire, NM almost always breaks records for the coldest low in the 48's in the summer time, always like 28-30 it drops to).

Also, the other mountain states have desert and ugly areas (Eastern Wyoming is honestly more ugly than Nevada). It also goes by elevation too; Nevada and Arizona both have high average elevations and Nevada has the most mountain ranges out of any state.
