I am an atheist and I'd say the reverse is true, those that believe in God and Heaven don't actually believe in that fairy tale silliness. I'm an atheist that never had to rebel because my parents gave me so little cursory exposure to religion that I was able to make peace with it and respect it while still distancing myself. The issue is that agnosticism and atheism emerged from European morality and values. They were ostensibly Christian, but they weren't the values of theocratic or religious Christianity.
