A woman who owns an anituqe botique shop here locally was on the radio the other day. An avid thrifter, she told a story where she bought a pretty vase one time at Goodwill and it turned out to be worth $14,000. People donate stuff all the time they often don't know the true value of. It's not a bad hobby to get in to, and it probably pays more than speculating on crypto.

my dad spends most of his time being retired at a goodwill outlet buying shit and reselling it. one time he found a sealed copy of escape from monkey island and sold it for like 2k. when i told him not to tell the people who work there because it will cause them to hide things like that he got mad and told me that he should be grateful to the "goodwill" megacorp for their blessings.

Only if you worship capitalism and are insecure.
From my perspective a corporate store with rows of identical shit has a grim spiritual aura.
I've been dumpster diving behind our local goodwill for over ten years. I get about $10,000 worth of just about anything you can imagine a year doing it. Gold, silver, high end electronics, antiques, furnished my entire apartment, haven't needed to buy almost anything I need for a long long time. They throw away so much I fill boxes and re-donate it to other smaller thrift shops. They throw away cases of mint condition CD's and blu-rays, antique cast Iron skillets, awesome knives, tools, cases of fresh clean linen, clothing, records, vintage toys, video game cartridges, when the donations overwhelm the sorters they'll just fill the dumpster with unopened boxes that come in the front and go right out the back into the trash. It's always been that way and it seems like they'll never stop. You name it, they throw it out.

That's because their "charity" is now turning your shit into employment; being able to get low-cost supplies is no longer the goal. They control their generosity now like an IRS auditor. They hiked up their prices to increase profits to pay the CEO $850,000 a year. They are uninterested in being the launchpad for allowing people to flip things to support themselves. The only support you'll get from goodwill is if you're unemployable, but looking for work. It is 100% jewed now. I recommend never donating to goodwill ever again.

>No one who is doing well in life is going to be at a Goodwill unless maybe they're making donations
let's examine this
>No one who is doing well in life
you mean engaging in the jewish economy, and fucking over your fellow human enough to gain an uneven amount of profit for yourself.
That isn't "doing well," it's being a bigger piece of shit than others, which is what the system is designed to create.
> is going to be at a Goodwill unless maybe they're making donations
again, you've decided that the greed economy is the pinnacle of human success.
You've also decided that the best position to be in is one of constant turnover of goods.
Remove yourself from everything and take a step back. Your morality hinges on who has jew gold or not. Think about that for a minute. There's a fine line between recognizing necessity and cheering the evil that creates rifts in society based upon jewish greed. Even if you can't see it, a different world can exist outside of greed.

I think it's more likely he's either lying or exaggerating. Yes, people who have money and are fiscally intelligent still tend to shop sales and budget well, but literally shopping at Goodwill is next level. Maybe he's even doing it as a flex, but honestly it's in pretty poor taste to actually shop at Goodwill if you have money since those stores are there to help poor people and those people need what those stores have. If you have money, you can still shop at Walmart and save money

It is good business when the economy is thriving. People tend to buy less antiques and shit when they're taxed to high heaven and don't own their own place to store it. I've always wanted to own an antique shop cause I grew up in a house full of antiques my mum found for dirt cheap. But it just isn't viable unless you're aiming at top-earners, but that market would be hard to break into.

That's because anything good was donated by deceased people's families. Nobody would willingly give this company anything but when people inherit a hoarder's house full of outdated appliances and ceramic cow collections they send it all to goodwill. Sometimes valuable stuff leaks through when people are in a hurry and that's what the company banks on. The grim aura is that of the despair, disappointment and resentment of old people who had valuable antiques and suicidal trannies' who had desirable video game and anime collections.

the one by me doesn't throw anything away but actual trash. All of them have a truck trailer parked in their loading bay at all times, being filled with the stuff that times out in the store. From there, it goes to a Goodwill hub, where people line up for days to get first pick at the leftovers, rolled out in giant bins, everyone eyes the contents until the buzzer sounds, then they're allowed to go for what they see. People get into fights over shit. There's a giant one in Indianapolis.

I bought a complete, functional computer.
It hadn't been wiped. Full of photos, writings, music, porn, etc. Still had a decent gaming GPU, etc.
As I dug through the files, I realized this dude had been applying to jobs for months. He had a shitty 'please take me back' love letter that was still being written. A txt file full of stuff he needed to fix about himself. Like 30 different versions of his resume that he'd tailored to increasingly lower-tier jobs.
I realized, holy shit this is the computer of a guy who committed suicide. That's the only reason a custom built PC of this quality would show up un-wiped as a donation at Goodwill.
I wiped it out of respect and used it as a network drive and web host for local stuff.
I kind of wish I had kept his name to google his obituary or something, but that's long gone.

>every retarded found out about thrifting and caused prices to jump up
They got a new CEO who makes nearly a million a year who changed the goodwill pricing structure to ensure that the poor can't but cheap goods anymore. That's why prices jumped. The new CEO decided that people supporting themselves on flipping, people who need cheap clothing and plates and glasses or cheap geriatric shit or baby shit are less important than the profits that pay his outrageous salary. Goodwill needs to lose non-profit status.

We also give out 40$ vouchers for anything in the store to anyone who asks. We provide rental assistance to anyone who asks. We hire people who would not otherwise be able to get jobs and pay them above minimum wage with benefits.

Every goodwill in our region has every picker professional reseller hitting it every single day. Worse, there are spawn campers who literally loiter in the store 4, 6, 8 hours a day who know exactly what's good and snipe it the second it comes out onto the floor on the carts. You don't have a chance unless you know more than them.

nice I might go check out the one near me. I once made like 500 dollars from picking up stuff that people leave at the curb on bulk trash day and then just having a "garage sale" at my house.
It was fucking awesome man. I filled up a thermos full of box wine and I was getting drunk just sitting there talking to the people who came to browse my wares. I also found that you NEVER put a price on any of your shit. Always make the goy suggest a price and then agree to their price. They will suggest a higher number than you ever would lol

Don’t care lol. I found a $300 Manfrotto tripod at a goodwill for $5 last weekend. As a poorfag in college I managed to score Zero Halliburton luggage, loads of cast iron cookware, a Hugo boss overcoat, loads of vintage denim and wool sweaters, nice cutlery and kitchenware, and quirked up objets d’art that made my shoebox apartment impress the few bitches I managed to bring back. You need to have the eye of a curator and a vision going in, but you can really up your lifestyle as a prole on the cheap thanks to goodwill. I even managed to scrape together enough random carved ebony and rosewood objects to pay for some gunsmithing work. The smith would recycle them into forend tips on custom stocks and he was having trouble sourcing the raw materials due to some new CITES regs. Plus thrifting is inherently anti-consumerist, anti-globalist, and environmentally friendly. Zero cents into j*wish pockets, zero cents to offshored manufacturing, no additional microplastics and forever chemicals released to mfg something new.

here's the real goodwill blackpill
I used to work across the parking lot from one and went there on my breaks
retired boomers who have nothing better to do sit there every day, all day
every time a new cart comes out with items, they pick through it immediately and take the best stuff before it even hits the shelves
you can still get good deals occasionally, but it's just gambling that those types of people either didn't realize what an object was or it was something stocked after the store was closed and they missed it on the shelf
I still like going to goodwill, but now that I can't go there regularly I don't get nearly as many good finds
that being said goodwill is still based
fuck the consoooomer jews no goyim you must buy everything new!!! don't get perfectly good used items at a discount oy vey!!1!

Most of the donations go right out the back door and the locals never even see it. Or into the dumpster, though I thank you for that. Fucking faggot.

That was my experience too. I'm 45 so this was a pretty long time ago. I still hear the song "I keep holding on" by Simply Red playing in my head whenever I think about it. Goodwill was boring, and I'd always max out before my mom did. Back then most of the toys were just junk from the 70s. We didn't have the same glut of chinese plastic crap that you see today. So it'd be barbies with marker marks and cut hair, or broken GI Joes or He-Man when it came to the newer stuff we'd find there. Every once in a while there'd be something neat.
We'd then go to taco bell or burger king and get food, and hang on her apron strings while my mom ran errands around town. Paying the phone bill, returning library books, getting groceries, etc.
I actually get a weird physical ache thinking about it.
Found this thing and it was pretty rad.

Grew up dirt poor and I mean so poor that my mom kept the underwear they gave my brother in the hospital and then that underwear was given to me as a hand-me-down. Doing alright now got more in the bank than the average guy and I attribute that to the fact I solely buy sell by date meat, clip coupons (typical gorcery haul is 30-45% off), buy old baked goods, redeem empty cans, and dig through goodwill for clothes for me and my wife (though she gets the actually new stuff). Been wearing the same t shirt for a decade. You might call me a miser but I treat my wife nice and buy her new stuff, flowers etc. I can forgive myself for my poor treatment. You can shop at other places like Walmart and still save money without raiding a thrift store and taking things from people who can't afford to go anywhere else

Yeah. Value Village/Savers got busted for doing the exact same thing on a much smaller scale, but evidently Goodwill have connections. I mean, if their training programs are so damn worthy, why do I see the same employees working at a store year after year? Why have I never seen them sponsor any "community" events or have their brand on anything but their retail stores?
Plus, they skim the best of "community" donations and flip them on eBay, leaving their stores largely with leftovers that are too much trouble to sell online. There's still value to be found in the stores if that's your thing though, but there's better thrift stores and I rarely go there anymore. Last time I was there though I found two full bottles of pic related for $9, so their profit nazis do miss stuff.

That's got to be in a different country because I've never heard of them here. For many items, it is in a way no different from any discount shopping. Knowledge is power. Most of what I see at Goodwill anymore is Mexicans looking for shit (mostly clothing) to send home or for their swap meets. I try to time my checkout to when there aren't any what I call Mexicarts in line, carts just full of shit that will occupy one cashier for 20 minutes. It's not just Mexicans though. Increasingly you see aging women, what I guess we call here victims of feminism, loading up carts of batshit crazy garbage or 60 pieces of glassware that have to be wrapped individually.

There was one store that had this daily koffeeclatch of retired fucks who sit for hours on the furniture that's for sale and talk about watching "Pickers" in between dry humping every cart that gets rolled out. They all look for the exact same shit everyone else looks for to flip and therefore rarely find anything. They're all looking only for home run swings (rare in thrift stores anymore) and as a result keep pestering employees about when's the next cart and shit like that. As a result of that, store management takes note and now you can't buy even crap brands of chef knives for under $7, let alone any that have actual value like Zwillings.
Meanwhile, there's so much value in other areas they never even look at, probably because you have to have a lot of knowledge to spot value outside of mainstream crap.

Private equity is moving in and capturing the waste stream. Companies like better world books have contracts with all the local libraries to buy every single discarded or donated book they don't want for their collections, other corporations are doing the same with other materials, and Goodwill itself has very aggressively positioned itself to open donation centers all over. Goodwill will accept a lot of items they have no intention of reselling just to keep it out of the hands of competitors. Another reason they suck.

I stopped going to mine. They pick through all the donations and send the good shit to their online auctions. The store smells, and generally all you can find is broken, really old, parts missing, or it's a used item from a dollar store marked at $5 or some dumb shit.

Man I wish it were much easier to get an old PC just to even make a sleeper, but you can't find those very easily.
A lot of them show up in e-waste facilities or probably a landfill, if there isn't somebody who's selling one on eBay for 300 dollars that nobody is going to buy. (parts gutted out or not)
On the bright side, sometimes it's easy to find NIB old generic PC cases to make sleepers..

Jokes aside, the purpose of Goodwill Inc. was to hire people to repair things people donated and sell them to the public, which makes a lot more sense than just handing people money which only breeds dependency (and more dependents).

The one where I live in Vancouver is all latinos selling people’s stolen tools crackheads will rip your truck open like a tin can and empty it out and then illegals sell the tools at the flea market.

In my country, Goodwill doesn't gouge people, but Salvation Army stores do. Sally Anne tend to price things ridiculously high, so much so that you'd literally be better off going to Walmart to shop for lower quality but new and less expensive things. Jeans are a good example. Went to SA to look at what they had and they wanted over $20 per pair, and between $10 and $20 for jeans that had obvious wear.
Goodwill sells them all for $10, flat rate. It's better for someone to shop at Goodwill than SA, but if you're into thrift store shopping, going to some of the smaller church-operated stores that are one-off (not a chain) also makes a lot of sense, and they'll have items in the same range as Goodwill.
I sometimes think there are Salvation Army employees at every store looking up the value of the donated items and pricing them accordingly. It's a business more than a charity shop because of that.
Some people collect things like Pyrex, and finding a piece they like at SA is guaranteed to be expensive, but the other shops sell something for a few dollars that a simple google search would show is worth a lot more. But they don't care about maximizing profits.

Maybe where you live. In the cities it's not like that anymore. Goodwill skim off the best stuff for online sales and dump the rest onto shelves and into bins that they rarely organize or clean up, and their prices for a lot of items are simply absurd. There are a lot of thrift stores out there if you look for them that offer a more tolerable experience.
There's a new one where I live run by some LGBT organization. They pay a "living wage" so I suspect they won't last long. Their donation base isn't very expansive either, but there are good deals there sometimes. At the front door is some scrawny, silly-looking jew sitting on a stool staring at his phone at a podium that bears their "code of conduct," which is basically the "in this house we believe" crap tailored exclusively for the benefit of sexual deviants. I guess he's the behavior cop. Most employees are actually quite nice people who seem to enjoy what they're doing, the exception being the cis-white women who sneer at white men and are generally sour.

I note that nobody has ever pointed out just how much crap Goodwill dump in landfills. They have a clearance center for stuff that doesn't sell at the retail stores, but a lot of it is so beat up because of the high pricing that condemns so many otherwise useful items to a month of in-store abuse that it doesn't sell there either. They have a massive dumpster in back.

But when I would visit those stores regularly, there were many, many items that were perfectly fine and usable but the prices were so high that nobody bought them. They either snapped off parts they wanted and pocketed them, destroyed them simply for the sake of doing so or threw them back into the bins or shelves after laughing at the price.

The NFL wouldn't be able to deal with the optics of suing some starving kid in Africa or destroying those shirts to deprive them of that opportunity, so they'd have to simply tolerate it.

Over the last 10 years though most of that good stuff has dried up and they just have a meager selection of mostly junk electronics now.

Then goodwill sells those items themselves for actual market value. its so gay
