Virginia has been a blue state since Obama. It's due to all the government related jobs that have been created in the last few decades and those new arrivals have all moved to northern VA, which has tilted the state politically. The last Republican to win a Presidential election there was Bush in 2004, they haven't had a Republican Senator since 2008, and have only won the Governors race twice in super close elections in 2009 and 2021.
