That's also how you end up with a massive insurgency behind your lines and a huge population of people who are now your citizens who hate your guts. The current strategy the Russians are employing will let them win the war in a way that doesn't leave anyone who is willing to fight against them left alive in Ukraine. Russia is trying to accomplish goals that aren't as simple as capturing the country, they want to make it so Ukraine is never a threat to them again. They are only advancing fast enough to retain the advantage the attacker has in terms of attrition, since contrary to "common knowledge" the attacker typically suffers far fewer casualties than the defender. in fact the attacker typically only suffers serious casualties when the enemy launches a counterattack. This realization was the underlying principle behind the ingenious French bataille conduit which they developed towards the end of the first world war.

They start counting from the maximum "territory" Russia "held" when they drove across Ukraine unopposed for a couple of days back in 2022.

In reality, Russia has gained about 4000 km^2 this year, and they claim roughly another 20000 km^2, so at the current rate, they would need about five more years to control all claimed territories.

That's retarded on two seperate levels.
First of all, if you rush the capital, grab it and declare victory you've only transformed the conflict from an open one into an insurgency. You can ask the Americans, they are world class experts at losing their wars this way.
Second, assuming the Russians are doing this the correct way, which they currently are, taking the capital still isn't the actual end because the opposition still has bodies to throw into the battle so they declare the next city their capital.
You have to spread a wide front line and kill everyone willing to show up to the fight. And keep doing that until you've combed through every tree, stone and basement, all the way to the border. Attempting to cheap out and skip this step is a recipe for failure.

Nah, bro. Russia is fucked. Any territory they may have captured is at an increasingly unsustainable cost. They may have much more infantry than Ukraine, but their armor has been decimated. They won't be able to capture any the defensive fortresses Ukraine has anymore, and with new missiles coming in, Russia is going to start taking some heavy damaged now that Ukraine has fucked up a good bit of their air defense.

by snownigerias pace rather 2076, if they hold on as long. It took like 2 years for Pokorovsk and it's not even conquered yet. Kramatorsk is 3 x times bigger, so let's calculate:

>Startdate on Pokorovsk: 28 April 2024
>it took 26 months to reach Pokorovsk
>it took roughly 800 days to reach it from 2022 contact lines

Earliest you gonna reach Kramatorsk (and you have to get throug Sloviansk yet!) is end of 2028

How many snowniggers and import niggers you need for that?

i believe the recent counterattacks in area of dobropilia salient are exactly about stopping future russian advances towards slavians-kramatorsk agglomeration.
afu understands that after pokrovsk is cleaned up, most of the russian forces in that operational theatre will be redirected towards new objectives, with a strong garrison (10k or so) + rubicon protecting pokrovsk and myrnohrad. russians will pivot north to take dobropilia and from that to encircle slaviansk-kramatorsk. afu wants to reinforce that direction at all cost.

Are you sure current Russian doctrine could exploit a break down. Aren't they using small probing attacks all along the lines continually? How much logistics can they apply to a given point that is found to be weak?

I am not sure that the CIA etc have not turned Ukraine into a briar patch for Russia. They are winning and gaining ground, and as a result they do not sue for peace. Maybe this level of weakness is planned by Ukraine's patrons.

Total Hohol Desertion, THD.

In October, a record number of desertions were set in the Ukrainian Armed Forces: 21,602 people left the service, according to former MP and drone company commander Ihor Lutsenko.

"Every two minutes, someone deserts our army. These are just the official figures. In reality, many cases of unauthorized departures and desertions go unreported. This is the army's number one problem. An army in retreat is an army that is still capable of winning. A disintegrating army, which loses more and more people month after month due to desertion and defections, is the real danger to Ukraine's existence," Lutsenko writes.

Let us recall that over the past year, twice as many soldiers have deserted as during the first 2.5 years of the war.

What happens if Europe just says yolo were counter-invading Ukraine, if Russia can do it so can we? (given the long term enormous defence cost of Ukranian capitulation). Seems that given the relatively even balance that a fresh force with vastly superior air power could wrap this up pretty quickly... would Putin actually n00k if Europe said we're gonna advance up to the Russian border but no further? I can't imagine even German boomers believing that at this point. (this obviously could have happened 3 years ago and saved a million lives but we are where we are)

It’s what Poland should’ve done under pretext that they are protecting a million or so citizens in Lwow. They could’ve created a buffer where the latest technology could’ve been fielded and tested by a NATO ally while goading Moscow into provoking a response.
