No, my last year ranching was in 2021 and I was getting $2.49/lb from the feed lots which was the lowest in 15 years. The meatpacking was the choke point in the shutdowns so they were paying bottom barrel prices for carcasses and charging top dollar for packaged meat. Like many other companies that did shitty things during the shutdowns, they just kept status quo post covid and reaped extra profits. Beef has a long ramp up time, importing cheap beef is just going to make it less attractive for ranchers to build or maintain their herds. Much better to just eliminate all the red tape the FDA and USDA has in place and allow ranchers to cut out the middlemen.
