I mean everything is so weird looking. The Grand Mosque was perfectly square and mainly made up of a colonade. Look at it now, what even is that shape called? An ill formed potato. And the big Sauron's Tower doesn't match up with it, or the faces of the Kaaba, which of course were aligned and parallel to those of the Grand Mosque not long ago. Now you have a Potato-dome with a weird crooked hallway and a giant Sauron's tower made almost to mock the Kaaba. I'm a Christian but this offends even me, and on several levels.

Some care about tradition, others just want to optimize the flow (and increase the capacity) of people during pilgrimage and that's the main reason it is shaped this way. this seems obvious to westerns but probably not to muslims because the word for worship, يعبد abd in Arabic has a different tone, coming from the same root as 'slave, servant'. that the idol is urging them to do something which Jesus does, Hindu idols etc. it could easily be said the Kaaba is also demanding everyone pray towards it, but the impetus here is from God/Allah above rather than the cube itself so they can say it is not worshipped. this is also what Christians and even Hindus can say about their idols but it requires going into their own theologies to explain how it works which nobody is going to bother doing.

Theres a few reasons for that.
The most important one is that the Kabaa or whatever is what all Muslims around the world face towards when they pray a hundred times a day, so making a building face that direction, especially so close to the kabaa, is sacrilegious.
The sides of the kabaa also face the sun during different equinoxes, while the other buildings will avoid facing the sun directly.
and lastly, they probably put a large emphasis of the orientation on preventing crushing events. Uniformity would take a backseat to that goal.
Its probably all designed by germanics, too.
