Diesel isn't a good value here. I've heard that the balance between gasoline and diesel is so that diesel can be used for trucking and export to Europe while gasoline is mainly retained locally. If Europeans switched mostly to EVs, we might start driving more diesels as there would be an oversupply of it, driving down the price. Depends where you live, its often seasonal and more often than not around the same price if not cheaper than premium gasoline anyway. I used to have a 2016 1.8T jetta and it would get up to 40mpg on long trips on the highway. I don't agree with truck drivers. Trucks are too expensive and horrible on gas, and I doubt most people take advantage of a Truck's capabilities on the regular. Its a good car. Forester is made in Japan. Outback is made in the US by mystery meats. But Subaru definitely is lying with the mpg stats they sell it with.
