Guess what? We have infinite duration mortgages in Sweden. This only pushes housing prices up even higher. And our mortgages are all variable rate, with lock in times being 3-5 years maximum. Most people go with unlocked because it has the lowest rates.

So how exactly would this work? Banks would have no incentive to give a 50-year mortgage because even an 18 year old would have to keep working until 68 years old to pay it off, which is 1 year over retirement age already. Every year older the buyer is, the further they would need to push out their retirement. For example, a 25 year old would need to work until 75 to pay off the mortgage.
This really isn't practical.

The FHA currently doesn't due this because they are too risky. Much greater chance of the borrower going underwater on the loan and defaulting, you don't start to accumulate much equity until halfway through the loan term.

At zero interest it's not even that. Keeping the lights on at the branch location isn't free. Mortgage companies are still businesses with expenses, they get their money from charging interest. And first time buyers are always the riskiest at anything. You're asking for-profit businesses to make zero money off of a huge financial risk for 20 YEARS. They'll all just close up shop if those are the rules.
If you want zero interest it has to be a government product or at the very least a government-backed product that the bank can't possibly lose money on, where the government steps in to pay every last dime of any uncollected funds at the end of a foreclosure, including the foreclosure fees.
And keep in mind that the federal government backing student loans is what caused them to spiral out of control into a completely unmanageable debt crisis that's destroying a generation.
