Maine doesn’t generally pay anywhere near what NY pays. You live rural near the slopes, cost of living is down so all things being equal. The most expensive cities and towns are along the coast. Western Maine is rural and accessible to great skiing in NH and VT. Maine has a few places to ski like Eaton Mountain but better skiing can be found elsewhere. Western Maine is affordable if you avoid resort towns. NH used to not have a sales tax- it’s been a while. Save what you can. Buy a home outright (or a cabin before you make that plunge), you could easily survive on $70k annually. High property taxes along East Coast- especially mid to Southern ME.

Yup. Kids live here who can get into those vehicles, we have limited parking space, we don’t need abandoned projects left on the street in front of others homes. I do have another neighbor who does auto repair on the side. He works in his garage at night, one project at a time. Once in a while drops by to ask if it’s ok to leave a car for the afternoon. Even weekends, the guy is considerate about where he keeps the customer’s cars. He also keeps his property up, is relatively quiet considering the amount of visitors he has.

I live in a small neighborhood where parking is premium. I think they removed almost ten vehicles that were not currently operable or registered. Food truck guy had three crappy trucks scattered about. He seldom worked on them and they leaked fluids. His yard looks like shit, he takes his fights out on the street with his wife. At one point, I was mowing his lawn after he and wife had temporarily vacated the residence because squatters and unauthorized home access is a thing. Can’t have the house looking like a crack house. Turns out his mother still lived there while he was out. Place looks like shit, fucking abused ignored dog always stuck outside barking. Fuck his choices.
