The story makes everyone suck.
Cody sucks. Rock sucked. Cena sucks.
That story was never going to put anyone over, and you know why that's the case.
Dwaynetty came in with his Hollywood production crew, got Ari's blessing and mandate to handle this, and they didn't book from the ending backwards.
Dwayne and Gerwitz just sucked it out of their thumb and tried to wing it.
This is on top of the writers being shit at their job due to being overworked with 120 wrestlers to write for, and further creative bankruptcy from Triple H who just wants to put the figured-in people over at everyone else's expense (including the audience).
Nobody could stop the hostile takeover of the creative lack of direction.
They pushed Dwayne's crew away though, slowly. Dwayne exposed the business at those press moments out of spite for how he was being treated.
That leaves the main event with a story that had nowhere to go and didn't make it out of the starting blocks, and absolutely nowhere left to go now that they canned it.
Cena's an actor. Give him the script and he'll tell the story.
The script was barren and what little it had was shit.
