ESPN is getting WWE PLE's in 2026
From: https://variety.com/2025/tv/news/espn-wwe-live-events-wrestlemania-streaming-rights-1236479492/

>Under a new five-year deal, ESPN’s soon-to-launch streaming outlet will, starting in 2026, become the exclusive U.S. home of all of the WWE’s top live events, including “WrestleMania,” “SummerSlam,” “Royal Rumble” and “Survivor Series.” WWE will continue to produce all the events, which have in recent years been shown via NBCUniversal’s Peacock. ESPN will also have the option to stream pre- and post- shows tied to the events — ten in all. The events may also be simulcast on certain linear ESPN venues.

This sucks. This service is likely going to cost $30+ a month, so WWE PLE's just got a lot more expensive.

I can't stand ESPN and refuse to give them my money.

Peacock sucked too but at least it was cheaper. I couldn't even get Summerslam to load. And not being able to rewind or restart live shows sucked.

The only reason I watched half of these PLEs is because Peacock is like $10 a month. Wwe isnt good enough to justify ESPNs $30 a month. The rest of the world gets netflix but Americans have to use ESPN? Nope. Especially since most of NBA and other sports I watch are on Amazon. All these streaming services are starting to add up

To cap WWE's content branching in the USA going into 2026:
>Raw + WWE Documentary Series-> Netflix
>Smackdown +SNME + Main Event -> USA Network/NBC/Peacock
>NXT -> CW
>Evolve -> Tubi
>Superstar Sunday -> A&E
>PLEs -> ESPN
And outside the USA, WWE is in either Netflix or on WWE Network. If you think it's unfair, that's the money-making business system the likes of NFL, NBA, MLB and other Major Professional Sports in the USA follow.

That's even more insane that the absurd $30/month price tag. WWE has enjoyed a resurgence due in part to the rebound effect following the end of the covid lockdown, along with increased media attention from the Vince scandal & TKO sale, and the return of a few big stars like Rock, then Cena, now Brock. But the storylines have been limping along, the TV shows are way too long with far too much crap in them, and the PLEs are maybe two good matches if that surrounded by samey bullshit and a fuck ton of ads and celebrity wank camera shots. Who in the fuck will they get to spend $30/month + $80 to see a PLE when this is the product on offer? This crap is going to tank interest in WWE fast.

ESPN+ is evolving into a new streaming service that's just called ESPN, which will include all the linear ESPN channels, which ESPN+ doesn't include, plus extra stuff. Basically cable is dying, so they're making a way to get all of ESPN without a cable package.

>I really don't think the PPV model is coming back.

It already has. This new ESPN service is $30/month. That's PPV price already, even if they don't charge extra for each PLE.

And since only the PLEs will be on ESPN, that's all you get. No backlog of all the Raws and Smackdowns and old WCW PPVs, et. al. that we used to get with the WWE Network for $10

Cable packages were shit. Just because the new streaming model is also exploitative shit doesn't mean cable packages aren't/weren't also shit. I got ripped to shreds about a decade ago on reddit for saying that eventually, streaming would become just as expensive as cable as you'd have to have 5+ services to see everything. Everyone was sure that Netflix would be the only service to provide streaming content.

I think cable is underrated. You get a wide amount of live content that you will never really get with any one streaming service because those don't offer local channels or all the sports.

But I agree with you. I don't understand how they think $30/month for a streaming service, ANY streaming service, is going to fly in this economy. It’s almost as bad as watching the NBA or NFL. They literally hide full segments and wrestlers entrances behind ads for the US audience. The actual wrestling is so cookie cutter and just feels like filler now so that they can move onto the next group of ad breaks.

Every corner of the arena is now covered in some sport of fucking sponsor. Tickets to prices are sky rocketing. The storylines are all boring as fuck and there is clearly no interest in pushing the envelope because instead of trying to attract more fans TKO/WWE is fine with just milking the existing audience and advertisers for money.

just my little theory. but this could be possibly Disney/ESPN soft launching buying WWE as a whole outright at some point in the future.
remember there was a story recently, either in Forbes or business journal, that said that TKO was looking to offload or sell WWE eventually. that's kind of been forgotten about.
I don't think that means WWE will be more kid friendly, Disney has Touchstone Pictures and other things for adults too

TKO is not offloading WWE. For one it is the IP that is printing money of them between the recent TV deals, sales and merch. They're using it as a way to bring together UFC events. So there is synergy. On the other side ESPN just went through layoffs to secure a deal with the nFL for the NFL network and redzone. THey don't need to suddenly through in buying another entity to fold in in the middle of that. When the deals for Smack or NXT come up I'm sure they'll be at the table as they were the last couple of times. Now with more inroads. This is Nick sticking to the idea of diversifying WWE's network partners to always have options and bidding wars. This is what you get when you don't think a TV network is your "friend" and understand it's a business.

Acquiring companies and merging or folding them isn't like you buying a videogame. It requires a lot of negotiation beforehand, more so when the company is publicly traded. There has to approval from the governing body of the company as well as the stockholders, but with privacy so it doesnt affect the sale, and then the feds get involved with oversight. Along the way you have to free up the capital and stock to make the merger happen. Afterward you have to reconfigure the purchased company, integrate it into yours while avoiding redundancy. So a lot. If you want to see what it looks like when it goes wrong look at WB. Point is Disney just did all of that to acquire the NFL Network. It basically purchased 3 new games from the NFL, sold a 10% stake of itself and acquired 3 networks. WHy? Because they wanted more football the most profitable live streaming content you can buy. This deal with WWE for PPV's probably got worked out while ESPN was positioning to do the NFL deal, years ago, when WWE rights fees were up and they were shopping them. ESPN took a look, and saw it as an option if the price was right or the NFL thing didnt move. Both businesses got what they wanted. Now same thing. ESPN gets extra content and has a closer relationship with WWE when the rights deals come up again. WWE gets a separate deal on a bigger network, and also gains leverage over its other network vendors when their deals end. Disney is not going to buy WWE anytime before then. And like I said TKO is not interested in offloading. The value of their property is going up. The more deals they secure the more value. Like a new Saudi deal which will be announced soon.

So what's happening to the archival content on Peacock ala what remains of the WWE Network? Are they gonna port all that to this new ESPN service? It already sucks they didn't move all the RAW episodes to Netflix, they only have select episodes. And old NXT episodes are getting uploaded to YouTube. But Peacock has all of Smackdown, and a lot of WCW and ECW. It would be a shame to lose access to all that.

No you every right should be mad every single one of us really shouldn't be going to their shows anymore. Majority of their shows are in this fucking country. If they love the rest of the world so much leave this fucking country go to the rest of the world and sell out those fucking arenas for real. Like why are we allowing us to go to an entire arena and letting people actually have a good time? Like I can go to any wrestling event and start talking to the general public about this and I think that most people should at this point it is bullshit that an American company can actually benefit the rest of the world. The rest of the world can pay $10 or $11 whatever their equivalent is and get every raw that's on TV. They get Smackdown. They get everything that we have to watch on cable on Netflix. Everything that we have to watch on peacock or soon to be ESPN for them. It's just Netflix. All they'll do is pay for one thing. How is that fair? How does that make sense? Why are we as American consumers just being forced to fucking deal with shit because people like you are like it is what it is not going to do anything about it not going to care. I'm not fucking watching this company anymore. I already canceled my Netflix subscription a long time ago. I don't buy peacock. It wasn't the fact that I have a friend that has peacock wouldn't watch it. I'm not spending $30 a month to watch this fucking product. I would buy a pay-per-view back when it was worth watching for $50 and I wouldn't give a shit. But no, you've actually conditioned me to accept like $9.99 a month or close to it for pay-per-views for the past like 13 years. Almost no fuck you. I'm so fucking pissed off with this country mainly that were just getting fucked. We produce almost majority of the world shit when it comes to entertainment at least up until a decade ago. But now it just seems like most of the shit happens in Korea. But we still provide so much movies and tv yet we pay most
