I think this is a great point, although I'll disagree somewhat about things that matter to mainstream audiences.
Mainstream audiences don't nitpicks this shit like we nerds do. They either like it for it is (and are fans) or think it all looks fake. Most people watch WWE because it's what they've always watched and it's what they're most familiar with. AEW fails because most of the stuff outside the wrestling is shit and the in-ring gets a bit too convoluted. I think Japanese wrestling would get over fine (I mean, most of the Japanese people in those crowds are just regular folks), but it's just too obscure and it's Japanese - I think a Western company that operated like that would draw fans just fine because that's closer to what the norm once was.
