The internet used to be a safe haven for shut-in losers and autists, and now it isn't. It really started to die when the iphone released back in 2007 and opened the floodgates for normies. Suddenly you had a bunch of tech-illiterate smoothbrains that didn't need to know anything about computers (and in fact were the same retards that would never ever touch a PC even if their life depended on it) on the web, but it was still on life support until somewhere in 2012-14. I'd say gamergate was the last nail in the coffin.

but i think it is also that new people don't innately know how to act, so they go based on stereotypes, and lately the stereotype is "everything is awful, people online are toxic and racist" so they come someplace like 4chan and think they're supposed to act like a shithead. Its like going to Tijuana and throwing up in the street because its Tijuana.

Going on dating sites seems like they're fishing for screenshots of how awful men are. Their profiles have like "I didn't think i'd resort to this but here I am"
