From what I remember transgenderism was basically nothing but a punchline in popular culture until the 2010s when it became something you either had to support or hate. I remember thinking is episode was just weird shock value humor typical of south park when I saw it as a kid although maybe I was missing the subtext.

During the 2010s trannies got more mainstream but weren't hated much.
And in the 2000s trannies were a niche topic mostly confined to porn or 4chan.
And during the 1990s trannies mostly only existed on the Jerry Springer Show or Maury.

Everyone hates how dumb and wrong trannys are. It was only after gay marriage was legalized in America that tranny slop was pushed on everyone and the alphabet gang acted like "trans rights" (taking away freedom of speach, safety/fairness for woman and children) was the same as the fight for any other social issue like gay marriage or cival rights. Everyone still hates them. it's just a small amount of people who pushed it but now with Trumps second term the tranny movement is dead and we can finally focus on more importaint things.
