We should take a page out of the USSR's handbook. All housing should be built, maintained and owned by the state and the state should allocate everyone in the country according to the needs of the people. It worked for them, it will work for us. Some of us might have to go six to a room with no running water and an outhouse for a toilet, but it will be worth it to finally all be equal.

Any discourse on housing is utterly pointless unless you're willing to address the elephant in the room of demand outstripping supply by nearly a million units year on year for like the past five years due to mass immigration.

Perhaps we should incentivise older people to downsize. E.g. if you're over 50 and you're moving to a property that's worth less than your current property then you don't have to pay stamp duty on the new property. Something like that.

Anyway it's not about entitlement. Maybe there are ways we can make things fairer though. People 50 years ago bought houses for much less money, relative to the average wage, compared to today. So for the sake of fairness, measures should be taken to make housing for young adults today more affordable.

Honestly just add like some kind of customary charge to any interaction with the NHS. Make it non-prohibitive, but real. Want to see a GP? Okay, fine, but you need to cough up ten pounds. Hospital appointment? Okay, also fine, but it's gonna be ten pounds. A&E visit? Ten pounds.

You can't have a universal right of access and zero cost at the point of use and not have demand outstrip supply, especially with something perceived (real or not) as such high value as healthcare. You need a way to decide who goes to the front of the line.

Cars are such that there exists a car for every price point, but the quality will differ in accordance. You can find an average shitbox for a grand. It won't be nice, but it will drive you from A to B. Insurance, tax, petrol, MOTs, maintenance, parking, breakdown cover etc. will fucking fuck you and will cost you on the low end 3,500 and on the high end up to around 6-7,000 a year. Any time I've cycled on roads I haven't got a clue what to do at roundabouts and junctions and that. Cars will be even worse. I don't need to drive but maybe would open up opportunities somewhat. Even if all immigration is stopped tomorrow, that doesn't reduce the population immediately. And if you want to send people away when their visas expire, that could take a while too. And we'd have to think about the economic costs of sending people away (how much it would shrink the economy). And the costs to public services, e.g. the NHS, which has a lot of workers from other countries.

Maybe we should just let builders build more houses. Seems like a pretty simple solution.

GDP per capita has flatlined in the face of mass immigration. Per capita we would be far better off. Plenty of studies have been done to show the long term fiscal impact of various sub-populations of immigrants. Not all are the same. A few are economically beneficial while the majority are net drains over their time in the country, especially if they have kids who then reside permanently.

what? you shouldn't be going down the wrong side of the road
>if you're on the inside lane and you exit when there's a car still going around the outside lane
if it's a multiple lane island each lane is for different exits, you won't need to cut across to exit unless you were in the wrong lane, if that does happen you indicate and slow down enough so that the car can pass if it's safe to do so, otherwise you'll have to carry on round and switch lane before you reach that point again

Lad listen to me. Most civilian helicopter pilots start their careers in their late 20s to mid-30s. You are absolutely not too old. Money is a factor of course, but can't you start again part-time?Even a couple of hours a weekend?

And most importantly, your past attempt was not failure. You gained experience. Every pilot has setbacks at the beginning.

No really it's over for me. I applied to a bunch of schemes out of uni that bring you in and train you and cover the costs with the goal of you eventually working for them to pay the costs back but never passed any of the interviews. After that I had to get a job to to pay my bills and have been stuck barely above minimum wage ever since. I don't have savings to put aside. It costs around about 50,000 to get your PPL and then modular CPL and I simply cannot afford it. Not to mention that even if I got a PPL and CPL I'd be like 33 or so before even beginning to apply for actual jobs because it would need to be extremely part time, and nobody is going to hire a 33 year old fresh pilot.

I tried. I failed. Sometimes you just lose and you can't get back the years and money you lost.

Lad, airlines and helicopter companies actually prefer older new pilots because they're stable and responsible. Trust me my family have been in the aviation industry my whole life. Being 33 actually makes you a better hire, not worse. You're creating barriers that simply aren't there.

Obviously 50,000 is a lot but you don't need it all at once. You just need to find money for one lesson at a time. I know they aren't cheap but you could do it.

I appreciate that you're not just bludgeoning me like some other lads do when I've voiced my situation before. So beyond anything else I'll say thanks and I hope you have a good evening, lad.

As for what I could do to get more money well there's the potential for some extra work, but it's literally only like 1/2 hours a week more at time and a half. I've done periods where I've opted to try before and sure it makes a few quid more a week but it never seems to go anywhere. My life savings are, right now, 538 GP. Every time I save money there's always something that hits me back. Rent goes up. Nearby food shop that was cheapest closed. Something needs fixing etc. I look around for jobs all the time but I'm not qualified for anything. I have a fake degree and no experience in any field beyond things like shelf stacking, kitchen cleaning, did some delivery app work when very desperate for money too a few years back.

I really have tried but I feel as though I'm just not a very competent, intelligent, high-agency person. Not everyone is or can be, but it just hurts when you know you're not and yet your dream was always to have the life of someone who is like that instead. It's locked out to you. Feels quite bleak.

Lad you're being incredibly hard on yourself. You're in a shit position, and anyone in your shoes would feel exactly the same. You're not actually failing at life right now, even though it feels like it. You're still keeping on even though it's tough, and that is something you can actually be proud of. Later in your life when you look back on these tough times you will be proud of yourself lad, I promise you that.

Also, it's really important to understand that your circumstances don't actually reflect your capabilty or worth as a person. It's just a shit situation that's wearing you down, you're not a shit person.

My advice is to just take a small step. Grab those extra hours and put the money in a separate account. Even if you're literally only saving 10 quid more a week, you could move your 538 to 600 or 650, and that'll feel like a small win that proves to your that your efforts matter. I honestly think that'll do you a lot of good and help you see things a bit different. You seem like a good guy and life has just worn you down a bit. A person's personality is just the electrical and chemical activity in their brain. When you die, your brain cells die. Oxygenated blood is no longer being pumped into your brain. Or do you think that some people are just incapable of obtaining/preforming certain jobs due to limitations in their ability/intelligence/physical attributes and so on?

I would say I believe the latter. I wish the lad well, but maybe he's right that he isn't cut out. Perhaps his brain just isn't sharp enough, he isn't able to operate complex machinery or whatever else criteria disqualifies you from becoming a helicopter pilot. That is how people act though. Of course there are punishments for acting immorally (prison, fines, rejection by friends and family). But some people do get away with terrible things. Like Hitler and his regime murdering millions of people in death camps. I don't think they feared punishment in an afterlife - if they had then they probably wouldn't have committed mass murder. Unfortunately I think some people do get away with heinous crimes without facing much punishment. That's why we should invest in the criminal justice system in order to prevent and punish crime wherever possible.

If youre gna wait 500 yrs for an answer there wont be one cus everybodys got too depressed nd killed themself,,Ppl would be so much better off following the bible now.Cus it could just take science 1000 years to prove the bible has always been true.Nd then youd look pretty silly.I think thats way more likely than the ongoing cinematic 3D film we exist in jst popped out of nowhere which didnt exist as a concept of a vacuum either until the universe that didnt exist before existence nd so on its just silly imo. How would that happen.

Not sure why it's bothered me, I wouldn't even be that bothered about going but not even an invite. I thought I got on well with most of them desu, suppose it's only work at the end of the day.

Why do you think that? Humans used to think "why do things fall downwards instead of upwards" - and we answered that question. The answer is gravity. So why can't science also eventually answer the question "why is there something instead of nothing"?

>>81734804
My stance is that we just don't yet know what the origins of the universe were. Maybe the universe was created by a god. But maybe it wasn't. I don't think we know yet.

Science could answer the question "why do things fall downwards instead of upwards?" because it's a question about the behaviour of the physical universe. It's about mechanisms, patterns and laws that can actually be observed within the universe.

"Why is there something instead of nothing?" is fundamentally different. You can't observe or test things that can't be tested or observed.

Just kind of funny to me to see something as trivial as a contradiction in the bible and then see christians go mental for hundreds if not thousands of years desperately trying to reconcile the obviously contradictory bits of text.

>Mark 6:8 'Take nothing for the journey except a staff - no bread, no bag, no money in your belts.'
>Luke 9:3 'Take nothing for the journey - no staff, no bag, no bread, no money, no extra shirt.'

Should they take a staff or not? Seething christian autists have written thousands of pages trying to say that NO ACKSHULLY THERE'S NO CONTRADICTION REEEEEEEEEEEE!!! Just funny really.

>"Why is there something instead of nothing?" is fundamentally different.
I don't think so. Potentially if we examine the universe enough then we might find evidence to answer the question of why the universe exists. I think religious people like to just say "No! Science can't answer that, because I say so! Therefore God must exist!"
