Diesel and gasoline have a much shorter duration before they go bad and can't be used to run a generator. However, anything is better than nothing.
Food is largely dependent on the individual. Essentially, maintain a supply of what you actually eat and is shelf stable. Adopt a basic rotation schedule. If you eat a lot of spaghetti, as you replace your spaghetti move the oldest package to be next in line for consumption.
If your house and car are washed away I'm afraid there is little that can be done. In that case it is your fault. Recall the tale of the three little pigs. The straw house did not hold up against the wolf's huffing and puffing and blowing the house down. Again, as I've explained many times before, preparation is crucial. When building a house, consult 100 year flood records at a minimum. Do not build in a location that is prone to flood risk. Use superior building materials and techniques. Icf is much better than 2x4 stick frame. Timber is better than stick frame, but inferior to icf, with a few obvious exceptions. In a high seismic risk area such as Japan, timber would be superior to icf. Icf is firmly attached deep into the ground through its foundation while Japanese timber is not connected to the ground at all. The entire structure utilizes hashira floating on stones, essentially making it invulnerable to earthquakes. You aren't particularly clever so I will clearly state what is being implied here, build to the unique needs of the environment your structure is to be built in.
