Why do I want to push people away and be alone, but then when I'm alone I get sad and lonely and miss the people I pushed away?

You should talk to a therapist about BPD.

Me personally I'd rather deal with less or no people than people who just aren't reliable. I stopping missing someone after years when I realized I exaggerated their importance and what could have been. I would have detailed dreams of this person after no contact for 10+ years it was that bad. If people were so great they would act better and be there when you really need it but they're obviously not.

Mass Psychology and Ego-Analysis sounds interesting, but it sounds less interesting in English as "Group" Psychology. I can't imagine that that's a proper translation, and I guess I know enough German that I could read this with a dictionary.

This is why people get dogs. When you don't want them around, you put them in a cage and lock the door. Then when you want them around, you unlock the cage and they're giving affection on demand. True, dogs still can act up if they feel rejected, but nowhere near the lingering resentment of the average human who gets put on a shelf.
