He died for the sins of humanity, correct. You still have to receive the gift of eternal life.
As the famous verse says: "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life"
You still have to accept the gift, so that you can become part of the "whosoever".
Hell is mentioned pretty frequently in the New testament, although indirectly
>"outer darkness"
>"Where there will be wailing and gnashing of teeth"
>"Furnace of fire"
>"Smoke of their torment"
It doesn't sound terribly similar to what I remember being taught about Greek myth in school.
>And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.
Is maybe what you mean by lava, although it's a different thing, and it's only introduced after the end of the world.
I agree with you that the bible doesn't describe it in much detail, and that the modern view of hell from TV and such is heavily lifted from paganism, probably due to Catholic Influence. I don't think there's any creedence to that sort of thing, would not argue for it and I don't think it has any place in a biblical discussion. "Canaanite mystics" dreaming up Christianity is nearly as bizarre as claiming native American witch doctors dreamed up Christianity.
I don't think there's a nation in this earth which hasn't heard the Gospel, even the Senegalese murdered a missionary years back to avoid hearing it.
