I think of my own dad and how he spent his free time. He would get drunk and watch western movies on the couch, no one would call him a manchild, but was he really any better than that guy? Its all just optics, most people don't do anything amazing with their free time and love to consume entertainment, but our entertainment happens to be more nerdy and catered to children and young adults.

My theory is that it's because its hard to be a traditional man in today's world. Obviously not all of us get to have a wife and kids, and the traditional family structure is the whole reason men act manly in the first place. If you aren't afforded this by life, the only other thing to pursue in a lot if guy's minds is comfort. It can be hard to find a sense of purpose and many men turn to escapism. Of course, guys like in the OP image often incorporate nostalgia to an extreme degree because they wish they could go back to better times when things were simpler, when playing Nintendo games was enough to make them happy and they weren't worried about being "manly" or having a fulfilling life. He looks happy in the video, I hope he really is happy inside.

Well, my current man child-life consists of:

Why would I abandon this? I have no financial stress. I save 70% of what I make. I come home from work to warm food and 4-5h for my hobbies. I sleep at least 8h a night. I have enough time every day to play vidya and exercise at home.
I don't like children and I have nothing in common with most women. And the normies I know at work constantly complain about poverty, irritating wives, childcare problems and so on. I never want to end up like them.

I think I had this, I still even have game posters up and used to watch 90's cartoons. For me I don't think it was all my fault, they made housing so difficult to get into, of course I would have loved to do the things my parents did, home improvement, buiilding a shed and stuff like that but I guess as a cope I had to what I thought at the time was making the best of what I have.

I tried my luck on the real life/gf/sex haver thing and totally played myself and failed miserably. so when it came to round 2 I just rolled over in bed and stayed asleep. I'm wanting to go for a pretty extreme space too. If you can't get a wife and kids you might as well make your house a work of art. Currently I have a big cuck shed that I put an addition on. Insulation up but don't have walls yet, using extension cords because I haven't solved the walls yet. Thinking of a Japanese teahouse theme. Diy some tatami mats. Fusuma and shoji to seperate living room from kitchen and bathroom extension. Might close off a 4.5 tatami sleeping chamber where I can have a like a bookshelf. Stand on table to access loose ceiling panel to retrieve/store futon.
The sleeping chamber eats up a lot of square footage but allows the austere reception room with tokonoma and chigai dana. Just walls, wooden beams, panel ceiling, a table, and whatever piece of art is displayed in the tokonoma. The side of the tokonoma will be hidden access to sleeping chamber. It will be very tidy and minimalist like. TV will hide under the chigai dana. Slick right? You feel like it's a zen retreat, then boom, giant 42" TV on the floor playing anime. Close the cabinet and tvs gone, back to zenning.
