my paranoia keeps me from using discord but i also don't want to end up older and regretting not making friends and it's the only way to know people my age. should i make an account? do you use it anon?

i never used discord, and i don't have the means of making friends in real life since i live in a small town and i have to commute to my uni until i finish it, and my country is one of the oldest yet. hopefully i can move out of this terrible place in some other country once i graduate.

Personally I don't think Discord is spyware, and it's not really that bad of a site pretty high quality streaming, audio, and I like the way it i've been using it since 2017 I don't really talk in servers that much, but I usually put myself out there on various sites to try to make some sort of friends

It's all about how you use it. Discord has a layer of anonymity to it because you do not have to post anything you don't want to pressure link any personal information, it's all voluntary. Also, no one can see you unless you let them.

My advice is that if you want to talk to someone from here, vet them though a proton mail and then Discord. Never send pictures of yourself or use your real name unless you really trust someone. Basic internet security shit. Also, don't join random Discord groups that people post here. I'm willing to bet they're full of scammers and sex pests.

anon, you can't make friends when you have 1.5 hour commutes while everyone else lives in the city and already know each other from high school. also, it's not like anglo unis where you have clubs and other things to do around the place, there are no dorms and there's literally only the packed classroom of 100+ people like high school. btw, the course is CS so it's difficult to make friends, and i did in the past but it just finished there.

Can't help you with that one, bud. All the people I talk to on Discord are individuals. I'm only on two servers, one has less than fifty people and the other has about a dozen. I like my tight knit groups and I'm slow to join new places. Especially if I don't know most of the people there.

There are no girls on the internet, don't send anyone money, trooning out will only make you miserable.
Making friends in real life is better but sometimes you need an alternative, so just try and be smart. Trust your gut if something feels wrong and don't be afraid to cut people out. That said, also don't be a dick and ghost someone without telling them. Even if you just say "Hey I don't vibe with you" that's better than just cutting them without an explanation

I made a discord account but I don't have any friends since I don't know how to interact with people or care for them. I'm the only one that I know of that uses discord and doesn't have DM buddies. Idk maybe you could tho

You at least don't have to provide anything more than an email. So long as you don't post pictures ot your home address nothing will be linked back to you. Especially if you set it up with a burner email.

the average age in my country is 45+. else, the small number of people my age that i could meet at the one pub present in my town (when there's no groups of criminals around, mind you) all work underpaid jobs either on far off factories to which they have to commute every day or at night in restaurants. that's the fate of everyone i knew in school. i think emphasizing my situation more will eventually reveal my country.
