i only recall that my first character was on draenor, but my elementary/middle school friends were on all different servers so i ended up with low level characters on a bunch. that server system was honeslty so dumb in that way...on runescape in comparison there were "worlds" but you could hop them and play with your friends wherever they were. i get that blizz was trying to make "consistent communities" but it ended up going south pretty damn fast with people concentrating on the busy ones and some of them ending up "dead" and empty. people at my school started playing in like 4th/5th grade and we were mostly on draenor but some were on crushridge pvp, and then in middle school everyone from the different elementary schools had characters on different servers and couldnt play together. it was really annoying!

well, yes, that was junky and really gave the lie to the whole idea in the end anyway....i think everything would have been fine if they just let people hop servers every one or two months way back in the beginning. that might have accelerated some servers emptying out but it ended up happening anyway. the only reason not to do this was to prevent people from escaping a "bad reputation" on one server by running to another, but that's such a minor concern (and a late-game raidy guildy one which i don't think hard-separating kids from their friends is worth doing just to partly counteract). they couldve even charged five bucks and we all would have done it to group up together in middle school. there were probably enough of us playing then who knew each other that we couldve had a full 10 man team for wsg, and definitely 5 of us for dungeons at least anyway. 3 of us were paladins so we could have done ez scholo and strat runs with the exorcism and all lol. actually i think tbc was out by then but uhhh anyway...it was really annoying that we were stuck separated on our leveled-up characters! we kept deciding like "ok we'll all reroll on whatever server" but leveling in classic took so fcking long that we never got far with it before people drifted back to playing their high lvls.

i'm pretty sure that wasnt until a while in and it also didnt let you go from lower pop to higher pop servers, or not to full servers, or something like that.

it may also have been that it seemed unfair for one person to stay on their high-lvl character while everyone else would have to make new ones, which is why we kept trying to start chars fresh on a new good server. either way it never really worked out. ive only played wow with 1 person at a time really as a result, tho its been several different people at times. you can get a lot more done with just 2 though than people think! its enough to do all dungeons up to the last boss of sunken temple if you have hunter/druid or hunter/shaman...you might be able to get even further but i'm neither a theory expert nor a very good player buttonwise. we also didnt have engineering which might add more options.

yeah, tanking was darn hard in classic. i ended up healing with my main character who id been playing the longest once tbc started, i dont even remember doing dungeons past like deadmines on him in original classic lol...they took so long and my mom would pull the plug if i didnt come down for dinner so i had like 4-6pm to play and then 7pm-9pm neither of which was really enough on weekdays for a dungeon, and i basically was only allowed to play the same timeslots on weekends. probably a good thing for me in the long run but it was really annoying at the time. the dungeons in tbc were shorter and i was in middle school by then so i could play like 3pm-6pm, and i remember doing healer in hellfire citadel on that paladin and getting some of the really funny looking glowy gemstone plate stuff tbc had. but i dont remember doing anything after that, i think i only got to level 62 or 63 because it took so gruelingly long to level as a holy paladin...and i think i also rerolled to play with a friend in 7th grade on horde. kind of frustrating to me that i didnt get to play more original classic but i guess i was kinda young for it at the time really.

Wow didn't come out until I was in HS and then I didn't play until the summer between 9th and 10th grades. When school started I could only play for roughly 2-2 1/2 hours between getting home around 2:45 and dinner. After that it was homework and then bed. I never tried to run instances on weekdays because there wasn't time. You'd spend half of it sitting in ironforge looking for people.

I could sometimes get one in on weekends. ive discovered some very interesting things about using chatgpt for development in the process...it tends to start "forgetting" things after a few thousand words and then it starts to introduce errors, at least on the free plan, but i got a free trial of the 20/mo plus plan which includes 500-1000 words of persistent memory and the capacity to store 25 files with a "project" that it can reference.

now i already have a bit more than 25 python files in this project, BUT funnily, i discovered that chatgpt is perfectly willing to write a short script to gather the directory structure of those files along with their contents into a "blueprint" text file, which you can then upload as a project file rather than the individual files...it seems important to make a new blueprint file every so often, say maybe every three or four rounds of changes, or at least every 10, or otherwise it can start forgetting what it read -- maybe directing it to reconsult the blueprint when you notice it forgetting something important would be sufficient, but using the script it wrote to make a new blueprint from the project files is basically instant so there's no reason not to upload new blueprints and ask it to reevaluate them every few requests. apparently, according to itself, it can handle a project of up to 150,000 lines of code pretty easily this way...and that's before compressing the files or zipping them in any way, or allowing it to create a shorthand for itself...it seems quite possible that you could get up to half a million or perhaps a million lines of code into a compressed blueprint for a single project, even on the 20/mo plan.

a million lines isnt much for some kind of big tech enterprise thing, but its way more than ill need for this project, so....its looking like kinda smooth sailing honestly. wild.
