Weddings are basically like an elaborate, expensive parade for a narcissist dictator. Except in this instance, the narcissistic dictator is the bride.

Think about it, she's the centre of attention. The entire thing, the entire event, entire day is about her. Everyone fawns all over her and gushes over her and tells her how beautiful and stunning she looks. 90 percent of the pictures will be centred around her. In the speeches, they sing her praises non stop. Anything else is basically viewed as complete heresy. Meanwhile, the groom is denigrated and humiliated during the speeches. The best man will make jokes about what a hapless retard the groom is. The father of the bride will threaten to pull a shot gun on him if he dares hurts the feelings of the little narcissist he raised (the bride.)

In many cases, the bride comes riding in on a fucking chariot like she's royalty. Music plays like she's divinity as she walks down the aisle (no such thing happens for the groom).

It costs an arm and a leg. And that's another way you can tell it has nothing to do with the groom. No man on Earth would ever want to spend tens of thousands of dollars on an event that lasts just a few hours.

Then at the end of all this, what's the reward for the man? If the marriage succeeds he basically has to watch his wife get fatter, uglier and less fuckable over the years. If it doesn't succeed, he is financially ruined and doesn't get to see his own children. There's no upsides to this arrangement at all.

Why any man would subject themselves to the humiliation ritual that is modern day weddings and modern day marriage, I'll never know.

It's just an expectation that's a vestige from a time where the woman would take your last name as a sign of her being your property, a transition of ownership from the father to the husband, and a transmission of responsibility for the needs of the woman as well. Under the new post-feminist, post-liberal paradigm, this is simply not the case. Marriage has always been on some level a humiliation ritual for men because in our primitive natural context we never really asked for permission, but even in antiquity, the degree of humiliation, such as having to be evaluated by a woman's father, was very toned down in the past thanks to coming with a lot of what were essentially guarantees like companionship, sex (no concept of "marital rape"), a homemaker, and progeny. Divorce was also heavily frowned upon due to strong traditional Christian culture, thusly, a man's time and efforts were not going to waste by investing them in his wife or wife-to-be.

Let's not get ahead of ourselves though. Men have always had simping DNA which is one of the primary roots of chivalry and marriage, but even with this DNA, men are also rational and have known for a long time that women don't give a fuck about getting treated right, so we placed many strict social restraints on women. If anything, benevolence is a turn off to them.
