Reminder - Earth is the only planet that we know of that has a perfect solar eclipse, since our moon happens to be about the exact same size as our sun when viewed from the Earth.

Nowhere else in the universe does this happen.

Bot post. Exact same text as when it was posted last month. Everything was explained in that thread but the bot has a quota so this thread will be posted monthly from now until it ceases to get replies (sorry to be one).

You're probably right but I remember the resilience of Goodrafag from /vp/ so it could very well be crippling autism.

But it's not perfect. Every time there's an eclipse there's a whole zone miles across that's on shadow, it's not point sized.

This actually isn't true.

Saturns moon Pandora casts a perfect eclipse on Saturn. In fact the difference in angular diameter of pandora and the sun are even more similar than our moon when observed from Saturn.

Callisto, Io and Triton also gives decent eclipses. But not not as good as ours.

Why do you mostly talk at me and not with me.

Are you unable to exchange information? Is it that you already know but there is a disconnect in ability to create the perception of information exchange? Or is it some other reason?

Its not perfect though? Even your picture shows that the moon is slightly smaller than the sun. Also how would you even know? We can barely even identify planets around other stars, let alone their moons and their proportions.

It varies due to the fact that orbits are elliptical. There are both total and annular eclipses at approximately a 1:1 ratio (55% annular vs 45% total). It is pretty unexpected.

Is it THAT unlikely? If we look at the current theories on how universe and life are formed, the odds of our particular set up falling in to place are like a trillion to one. At best it would be absurdly rare. Like two humans who are all but identical twins being born to different parents on the same day. Could it, or has it, happened? It's not impossible, just unlikely.
