Is geology absolutely full of shit and they don't really have a clue how the earth forms?

I'm doing my mid life crises at the moment and instead of buying a Porsche I decided to tour the Rockies in my old pickup truck. And genuinely the reasons they give for all these mountains is dubious at best.

ok tell us about your degree in chemistry, because that's how the mountains *actually* formed

The laramide eruption happened 60 ish million years ago. No doubt. But I would love for you to give me an actual reason for it

"Geology" in of itself is a single-field circlejerk for chumps that does not manage to integrate all fields.
It happens to be the targeted field supposed to be able to describe any one rock within a hypothesized "story" of a strata, but at the end of the day every single-field specialist will be overshadowed and outdone by the multi-field chads.
and OP probably doesn't even qualify for a single truly specialized field.

a lot of what I was taugh as 'fact' has changed considerably. Scientific method is never done, its a process by which real understanding is gained, and that understanding changes over time based on new evidence and experiment. The earth is a ver complex system, and that system changes over time, a very long time. Give them credit for learning and developing new theories and understanding, just do not think what is known now will be the same forever. There has been a lot of knowledge based on events that has been lost 10,000 years ago or more.
