It would tie into The Super Mario World Movie if that adapts both Super Mario World and Super Mario Sunshine.
And Bowser's Fury was about collecting shines in an open-world.
And Donkey Kong Bananza has voice-acting and cinematic cutscenes like Super Mario Sunshine.
And there have been 2 different greentext leaks about a Super Mario Sunshine sequel.

The first leak was about a teaser trailer showed F.L.U.D.D. on a beach and the release year of 2026.
The second leak was about it being titled Super Mario Bahama Mama.

Also, The Super Mario Bros. Movie felt more like an adaptation of both SMB1 and SMB3 and Super Mario 64.
