Now this right here was a missed opportunity. If you recognized the character on her shirt from an obscure horror manga you should have said "Oh cool, you're a fan of Tomie!" Then when she looks up you smile and say "Hi, I'm Anon!" while holding out your hand for a handshake. Then go right into the question to get the conversation started, "I'm a big fan of horror mangas myself and I'm always looking for new stuff, have you read any good ones lately?"
This would have shown the girl at the bookstore that you weren't just some random dork who was hitting on her because he thought she looked like an easy lay, but you're actually a guy who is interested in the same things as she is, and is interested in hearing her opinion on these things. This would have immediately made you more interesting to her. Chances are the encounter at the bookstore could have gone better if you'd done that.
Of course, it could be that the girl is just a bitch or wasn't into you. But if she had still used the line about ""That's actually really manipulative and predatory." you could have laughed it off and said "Well yes, but since you're wearing a shirt with an predatory manipulative succubus on it I figure you can relate to that!"
