Special Week Factoids (2/???)
>His win against Broye in the anime (A stand-in for Montjeu) wasn't exactly as glorious as the anime represents. Montjeu was heavily jetlagged and had issues with the Japanese soil. This isn't the French making excuses either, the Japanese press and other trainers present openly admitted at the time that this was a mere 'shadow' of the French Champion that they faced.
>This never the less is one of Special Week's more 'major' accomplishments and people will talk about it forever.
>Remember Special Week over-eating in the anime? This was a real life problem of his. He frequently showed up to races over-weight and would lose as a consequence, his trainer had to watch him carefully to avoid him gorging himself.
>There are contradicting sources on how Special Week treats humans. Some said he is tame, especially when compared to other children of Sunday Silence, some others said he is as bad as Sunday Silence’s children usually are.
>But there seems to be a consensus that Special Week likes humans more than other horses.
>When Special Week lost the 1998 Satsuki-sho, Yutaka Take was not pleased with JRA’s decision to remove temporary fences to make the track wider, and put the outer lane horses (such as Special Week) into a huge disadvantage (because they will waste a lot more time and staminas when chasing). He showed an unusual criticising attitude in the post-race interview.
>However, in the 1998 Kikka-sho, Take accepted his total defeat.
>In retirement? Special Week would end up living with Grass Wonder and El Condor Pasa. Go figure.
