The point is control. Whether wayland is an improvement is secondary to the fact that it's their project and no one can call them out as larpers, like when they (still) claim to be _the_ Xorg devs.

It's not that bad, but desktop linux would be unusable on pure wayland simply because steam and wine wouldn't run.
