Well older translations were not always so maliciously mistranslated.
As was stated for things like even big titles like FF8 there were done by very small groups or even single individuals sometimes. When going through a whole script, its natural some things may get by incorrectly, especially if you dont have someone to consult or check idioms/modern/slang or even references with. Translation can go very deep especially when you think of things like slang or all the different ways simple phrases or words can be accurately translated / literally translated but have very different meanings based on context. I try not to get too riled up unless it was clearly done maliciously or with political/activist slant because of it. Unfortunately, so much is done with that slant these days, and there are usually hints to clue one in if you look close.
>TotK had several moments that smelled really fishy when I was playing through it
Thats a game I'd believe probably had some "touch ups" in the translation for sensitivities sake. It was absolutely done between BotW and TotK changes things like "Race: Goron/Hylian/Zora" to "People: Goron/Hylian/Zora". Wouldn't want to have a weird no-no word like "race" in the game. Its funny because thats technically not even really an 'incorrect' translation. Both can be accurate, but its clear why one was changed and can cast some doubt on other aspects of the translation.
But I also think some of the original writing had the same done at the source for global appeal for that game.
Still really liked it though. I'll have to try and look up the tablets you're talking about.
