i told him to just try linux mint see and see if he likes it since its completely free
he did, was a shocked at how easy and intuitive it was to install but then got frustrated when trying to use it, but that forced him to actually learn how to google and look shit up, because he was motivated to not go back to windows
he says he couldnt be happier, his browser works (which is 80% of his computer usage), he plays mostly tycoon games so all of his games work, he said some work even better than on windows, not in terms of performance but in actual setup since some are older
so he couldnt be happier with it
