Ralsei is seemingly aware of the player's existence, so it wouldn't be a stretch to consider that he may be aware, to some degree, that he's a video game character that exists to fill a specific role. His knowledge of the prophecy is basically comparable to knowing the plot of the game; he knows there's no reason for him to develop beyond what the plot requires. Other Darkners have similar anxieties about being useful/entertaining to Lightners, but Ralsei has it worse because he knows Lightners themselves only exist to be useful/entertaining for the player.
