I am that anon. In my opinion, the intermingling of fiction and reality is the key theme of Deltarune. I am not sure where exactly this theme will end up going, but, for example, Susie's character development happens because she sees the dark worlds as "real," while Noelle and Berdly both regress from their chapter 2 character development because they saw the dark world as "fake." The story seems fixated on the idea of integrating fiction into your life specifically as a means of connecting with others in reality: playing games together to make friends, watching TV to bond with your family (or to find your personal identity, as with Mettaton), attending church for the sense of community even if you don't personally believe in it. But it also takes this idea in a somewhat odd direction. For example, chapter 4 is not just themed around church, but around books too. Gerson based his books around something that's a blend of both "real" and "fake," and he's now literally inside of the story he was telling, or at least a version of it. Gaster also obviously connects to the idea of real people becoming fictionalized. The first and second sanctuaries have each other as mythologized ancestors, and then they blend into one in the third sanctuary. And of course you have the sword route, where a game character enters the next layer of reality while Kris enters the game reality, using the increased freedom of being a literal "big" shot to do things the game character couldn't, but Kris still views the game character as a serious threat. There's a lot more I can say about this stuff and how it relates to the heaven/hell and light/dark dichotomies, but suffice to say, this shit is all really interesting and I'm curious where Toby will take it in the end.

I think Gaster could realistically invent black LED lights
