Because the style of storytelling/messaging has become much more noticeably preachy and arrogant. The 'wokeness' as written by RTD is surface level progressivism (read: not progressive), simply flaunting the appearance of diversity and inclusion without making meaningful effort to BE progressive and inclusive or even genuinely express progressive ideas.

RTD doesn't seem to know the difference between representation and tokenism (a micro aggression); Shirley is a token wheelchair user who seems to only exist to be a victim of cartoonish ableism; Rose Noble exists as a token trans character whose major event is essentially expressing their pronoun and basically becomes UNIT's neglected punching bag afterwords.

It also goes hand-in-hand with the production treating the show as a series of (failed) 'hype' moments engineered to trend on TikTok and Instagram, in case the incredibly narrow blocking and flat cinematography didn't make it obvious.
