SFII doesn't have any lore, it was made by Hasbro/The anime and SF Alpha, you know the finalized lore, it's not in the ORIGINAL game other than Chun Li, Guile, and Bison having connections. No other characters are related to the "plot" at all, and Bison didn't even have plans or a scheme yet, he was just "the badguy", MK established the purpose for the tournament and who Shang is, SF did not, and SF still, only is a "tournament" because people say it is, there isn't any tournament

Nobody watched the cartoon. I think one person saw the SF cartoon, three people saw the MK cartoon, and zero people saw the Darkstalkers cartooon.....yeeeh sounds about right
Guile was the hero in the live action movie, and this anime movie. Even the Jappos were like "shit, Ryu has NO backstory at all!" so the whole movie is split between Guile/Chun working toward stopping Bison, and Ryu's training montage until the third act

Everything else is a Superman ripoff, Vegeta is literally General Zod

If we're talking fan perception, Ryu is the "main character", but if we're talking story, he's never been central to the plot of any game because Ryu's only story is Akuma/dark hadou, which is basically a sideplot
Even the Japs copied the Hasbro template and made this movie about Guile and Chun Li taking down Bison, while it cuts away to Ryu doing random unrelated shit until the final act where he only fights Bison to save Ken, straight up shoehorned into the hero position at the last minute lol
