It feels very much like, and I don't know how to word this eloquently, the worst film in a trilogy. A lot in there is good individually, and I think in most cases the casting is perfect, but it does absolutely need a better director to get any actual mileage out of it. Gunn has already kind of confirmed it's getting a follow-up, though likely a Worlds Finest film over a direct Superman 2, and I think it's going to a matter of in twenty years you'll get people who say

I do hope they give him a bit more confidence as they go on, though. People were joking about him losing his cool during the Lois interview but genuinely did damage my thoughts on the film. I don't need stoic, god knows we've had enough of that, but we do need someone with a little more gravitas. I think that defines Superman for me.

Money is secondary, the whole point of this movie is to get a good reception from the audience and to have people excited for the future of a franchise that's been in the gutter ever since Snyder.
