I would be fine with a split Mario timeline if Odyssey didn't hype up Mario and Pauline's new romance, and also show Peach almost leaving Mario stranded on the moon while friendzoning him.

Now, in this new Donkey Kong Bananza game that comes after Odyssey, that has all of the Donkey Kong primate characters that are their present-day ages, there's this Pauline-like character who suspiciously has Mario's traits, and is named Pauline, and it is plausible that Pauline from Odyssey, like other characters with offspring, would name her offspring after herself.
