Game is ruined now. The weapon nerfs were bad but overall most weapons are still pretty good. An update called "Meet your Match" came out in 2016 which completely fucking ruined the main way to play the game by turning it from quickplay (join official servers and play for 40-60 minutes before the map changes) to Casual Mode, where queuing for any map other than the top 5-10 most popular maps takes minutes to get a game, games are filled in chunks (leading to large swathes of a team not even joined even as setup time ticks away), and you end up stomping the enemy team or getting stomped.

Nope. In-game map votes and vote scrambles are gone now and every game ends in 2-3 rounds, followed by the entire server emptying out since queuing for the most popular maps is faster (and people want to keep playing the map they were on). You now also only get three maps to choose at the end (with the map vote being broken a quarter of the time) and if you wanted to continue playing the map you were on or stick with the people in your server, you're screwed. Don't forget also: Meet your Match also directly facilitated the bot crisis with bots showing up only a week or so after it dropped.
Meet your Match has ruined TF2. Even in the uncommon situation where you find a good game with balanced teams, you only get it for 3 rounds, before you're back to matchmaking hell and shitstomps. Any time I think about playing now, I'm just reminded of how awful the matchmaking is and change my mind.

so im playing some casual pub game earlier tonight with friends. have several unregistered backstabs. the usual. at one point i stab a soldier directly in the back twice and both fail.
but no big deal its always like this.
then we do a scrim and get rolled horribly. not entirely because of the unregistered backstabs and times getting stuck in medics but that played a major part seeing as if the medic doesnt die he still has uber.
after the scrim is over, i go to a pub. a more hardcore pub with good players that im usually on and have so many unregistered backstabs. like 5. i didnt get a single kill. once my stab on the medic with uber failed twice i just gave up. this is completely ridiculous and i cant believe its still like this.
