yeah. low skill floor means you can be pretty shit at him but still be usefull. Spamming chokes works wonders. Learning how the slow projectiles move early on is very good too. It's also one of the few classes you can stack without it too negatively impacting your team. He is also quite forgiving, being able to go 1v1 is most situations when caught of guard. Last but not least, learning how to rocket jump takes time, the earlier you start the better.

Update Valve comp, add a class limit of two for all classes (seems like a ballanced choice beween nonstacking and appeasing "but I WANTED to play Demo(knight)!" players) and add some kind motivator like a contracter campaign to get the initial population seeded.

It'll never be approachable. TF2's game theory is very shallow while the mechanics are janky. The "skill ceiling" only appears high because of the Source engine, the reason why so few Invite teams do it is because nobody with actual talent cares, top Invite players don't even have time to grind like that anymore. If you main Scout then your routine consists of aim trainers, for Soldier you are basically just doing jump maps and mge, for Demoman you practice rollouts and do soap dm and you do all of this for 8 hours a day. You do all of this with the hopes of winning the team/mate lottery, winning Advanced only to burnout after top3 Invite and then retiring. Even European "pro" TF2 players have expressed silently their regret with playing comp TF2 so excessively, saying that they felt no pride and no satisfaction from even going so far as to win Premier division. Here's what you do, if you are one of the unfortunate souls who got into competitive then it's because you got a decent dopamine hit from being successful in lower divisions. You're going get sucked into this community of covert narcissists and ride your way to AT BEST the Main or middle Advanced division (d2/d1 divisions for ETF2L) then burn out hard because you realize the tippy top are grinding 12 hours a day and don't absorb any vitamin D or sleep so they're all psychotic and weird as fuck, literal gaming cryptids (which is a running gag in the community) or have been competing for the last 15+ years straight. So no, comp isn't approachable, it'll never be approachable and it'll never have that eSports flair like cs2 or Overwatch where "pro" players are pedestalized and dickrode so fucking hard, you'd wonder why they're still virgins. so im playing some casual pub game earlier tonight with friends. have several unregistered backstabs. the usual. at one point i stab a soldier directly in the back twice and both fail.

but no big deal its always like this.

then we do a scrim and get rolled horribly. not entirely because of the unregistered backstabs and times getting stuck in medics but that played a major part seeing as if the medic doesnt die he still has uber.

The divide between "AM playoffs" and "average casual player" is so great that a team of average casual players would get 2-6 in AM with 1 of them being a bye week. 6s is fun but if you're losing 6 officials in a row it's not very fun

I've played RGL for 3 seasons in a row now. I've never played NC so I didn't really talk about it, but I don't know if NC really 100% fixes what I'm saying. For starters there's no way to get back into NC once you're out. So that by itself forms a time limit of how long you're allowed to have fun

also on a more serious note, "casual is not as meticulously balanced as comp" wtf? casual's core gameplay loop, even with all the additions layered on top, was ingeniously crafted diligently throughout the course of 9 years by a single team, so that all skill-levels could be provided a fun, satisfying and deep experience for a wide range of players.

contrastingly, comp's balance has been dictated by different waves of small groups of people going in and out of the scene. only the very top players get to decide which maps and weapons are sanctioned for that season with very little disagreements even if some or most players disagree.

as a ""filthy casual"" i also think it is stupid that compies think vanilla play is "chaotic" (a strawman argument they love to parrot) when their formats focus on deathmatching skill over the even blend of tactical and arena shooter elements which, as stated above, allow for that fun, satisfying and deep core gameplay loop that tf2 is remembered for.
