I've genuinely never played a game of commander in my life, the closest I got was back when "commander" didn't exist and it was still EDH, and I was thumbing through some of my junk rares and thought it'd be fun to build around pic related. Not because of any synergy or table politics or any of that crap, I just liked the flavor.

There are exception for the viability of Voltron decks. I have seen Uril fuck up entire table because no one had edict, or mass exile effects. My Thrun the Last Troll deck also becomes hard to fuck with once he gets Vigilance and Reach. If your voltron commander isn't running Green or has no inherent protection you are probably going to have a bad time.
