Just because you can't find yourself enjoying what is being built in the show doesn't mean the show is doing something wrong
Just enjoy what you enjoy and let the 'pessimists' as you describe them enjoy whatever they want. Different strokes for different folks or whatever

It was Caine, he rushed in and called her turn an insta-homerum and changed the scores therefore making them win because he was bored out of his mind and wanted out already (even evil Pomni points out that they didn't get a chance to bat). Dude couldn't even be assed to have a good softball game from the start because he put in the evil cast and Ragatha points out how that was not part of her suggestion at all
