>This is the fucking Nintendo 64 all over again.
This, but I don't think there's a problem with the carts themselves, just what Nintendo is charging for them. The switch's success has made them cocky, there's no way they're still selling cartidges at a loss to get 3rd party developers in their ecosystem. Rather, they must think developers are so desperate to join to switch ecosystem that they'll pay whatever premium is necessary for it.
Have you seen their financials? Their profit margins are fucking massive now, they're making a fortune. Companies used to compete for market share by selling consoles for cheap (especially after launch) trying to get people in their ecosystem and compensating with software sales, but Nintendo stopped doing that once Iwata died and a literal banker took over. Now they earn a hefty profit on everything, and never lower prices even 5 years later when they can produce the same units for half the cost. After the Switch 1's success, I don't doubt Nintendo is trying to fleece developers too.
