>Giving your life in exchange for something is a textbook example of a sacrifice
And why is that? Isn't it because your life is something you (usually) value?

So you don't need to value the thing you're giving away for it to be a sacrifice?
You are free to have your proprietary definition of sacrifice, but then saying "Sonic sacrifices things" is meaningless because you're putting aside the very thing that would make sacrifice a virtue. To cause suffering to yourself for the sake of preventing suffering in others is what would make it admirable. And if we're correlating sacrifice with heroism, that's even worse. That would be implying that a god who saves a million people by snapping his fingers is more heroic than a guy who saves a single person by giving away his life. That sounds like a really unproductive worldview.
You can have whatever value structure you want, though. I just ask that you admit it.

>Why would Sonic dream of having some sort of status?
Because the social status brings fulfillment in a lot of cases. People seek all sorts of status, like being married, being successful, being a family man, etc... You're just misinterpreting the meaning of the word and applying a bad connotation to it for some weird ass reason.
