Robert Wright's book is of course one massive liberal capitalist recuperation of the concept of "interdependence."

To truly understand interdependence you must start with interdependence as your metaphysical premise. And so you begin with Whitehead, but certainly not stop.

Substance theory posits that independent existence and permanence is the fundamental nature of reality. In other words: timeless. This violates naturalism because it posits that there is a foundational reality outside of temporality. The nature of all things is interaction, and interaction is by definition temporally situated. If something doesn't interact, it doesn't exist.

Motion-in-itself is meaningless, because motion is by definition a relational phenomenon. Newtonian science implicity required the existence of a "universal frame of reference," but Einstein's Relativity eliminated the need for a universal frame of reference. The nature of spacetime is *betweeness,* relationality.

Energy isn't a substance, a "stuff," it is the ability to do work: to cause motion or change. It is a dynamic relationship between phenomenon. This means that phenomenon are comprised of relationships between phenomenon, so "betweeness" (interaction) is the nature of reality.

Process-relational metaphysics thus corresponds to the universe described by the modern sciences.
