You bring up yet another facet of western comics.
It's actually all superheroes.
This is Marvel and DC in 2019, bear in mind that this is more or less their lowest point, they used to be a far far higher share of the market.
These two comics make exclusively superhero comics.
that big yellow slice is Image, they also make pretty much only superheroes.
If you handled someone one copy every comic ever made, basically 99% of it would be superheroes.
Non superhero comic virtually doesn't exist, has never been given any attention and nobody knows they exist.
Sometimes copers will bring up things like Asterix, Archie, or Tintin, but nobody below the age of 60 cares about those and they don't sell any copies

Marvel and DC make no profits from their comics, their business has completely shifted to movies, videogames, and merch.
Despite this, Marvel and DC make up 75% of the market share. Meaning all other publishers are even less than worthless.
But to speak of them:
IDW and Dark Horse don't make original comics, their success is directly tied to the franchises they adapt, they're not really a comics company in the true sense of the word.
Image at the present just copies Marvel and DC and will die along with them if that continues.
Manga cannot be said to be a competitor to comics, because they're not even aware they exist. But they also cannot be an aid to comics, because they do not employ in the west. Nobody working in comics can jump ship to manga.
Diamond which is, atleast until 2020, the only distributor of comics, and they have gone bankrupt, with no companies expressing interest in buying them.
There are no promising new artists or writers currently at any comics company. All the big stars are approaching retirement age and will not have the energy to start a new company if Marvel and DC close their comic departments. Most people working at Marvel and DC don't like comics and see it as a stepping stone to movies/videogames of the company.
