The khmer rouge literally killed every cambodian with enough braincells to form a cogent thought. If they were capable of thinking, they might actually have a decent economy with a modern military themselves.

And for good reason. If she's trying to play nice with a snake like Hun Sen, she should absolutely be removed. She thought familial ties could take the temperature down but Hun Sen is basically an animal - he sees at attempt at conciliatory diplomacy as weakness. So he figured he could make the army turn on her and exploit Thailand's divisions to move in on Thai territory (which we now know from his leaked maps).
Basically he thought he could start a shit storm and try to land grab in the ensuing chaos. But the only thing he did was unite all Thais in wanting to kick his teeth in, which we're now in the process of doing.
