My thoughts on it, if you care (Image goes more in depth but also has some other cases of apple symbolism in deltarune):
Apples are a representation of freedom, the forbidden fruit, the ability to choose.
In the normal route
>Ralsei slowly feeds you the apple, you let him guide you as you taste the sweetness
This represents the fact on the normal route, you will EVENTUALLY be free. You just need to be patient. The prophecy will end in freedom, in choice. Just wait.
In the weird route

You rush to be free, you go too far in your pursuit of freedom and rather than being patient, keep going until you bite into the bitter core of the apple, representing reaching the "bad end" of the weird route, your freedom, your choice, leading to disaster.

I think they mean, "WHY ARE WE DOING THIS" currently, it just seems like being evil for the sake of it. Undertale had an interesting dilemma, it compared your need for completing everything in a game to your love for the characters. It was asking, "Are you willing to taint your memory of this game solely so you can tell yourself you saw everything in it?"
Currently, we don't know WHY we are doing this killing in snowgrave (Probably freedom, consult the apple theory)
